2 Groundhogs on the Beach

If you haven’t noticed, we’re doing things our way. We weren’t trying to be ‘different’ or ‘unique’ or ‘techie’ – we just didn’t feel like we needed to do things the way everyone else is ‘supposed’ to do it. That included the artwork for invites and this here website. Enter Jeremy Haines.

Angela lived in NY for about 10 years, and for much of that worked for a company called Animoto (which is kinda funny, because I had worked for a company called CreativeLive, who was a business partner with Animoto… I digress). Angela made a lot of good friends working there, many of whom you might meet on 2/2/20. One of them is Megan.

Megan is wise beyond her years, and met a bartender at a place called CafĂ© Loup named Jeremy. Fast forward a few years, and the first airplane trip (of many) that Angela and I took together was to New York for Megan and Jeremy’s wedding (on April Fools Day, 2016).

Jeremy is the guy you want in your life. You need him in your live. He’s creative, and musical, and funny, and is always – always – tinkering away at something. Whether it’s flipping through sportsball scores, jamming on a guitar, making loveydovey eyes at Youngblood (his personal nickname for his and Megan’s cat, Willie Nelson), or hunched over a small reclaimed lumber desk hacking at a sketchbook, he’s just an active sorta dude. Even sitting at the bar with him you can tell his mind is racing in a thousand directions.

I remember the first time I saw work from an artist named Bua (Justin Bua, actually). If you knew me from between 2006-2015 you might remember one of his prints on my wall – Piano Man 1. Like any good art, IMHO, it’s difficult to say what attracted me to Bua’s work. The surrealism of it? The colors? The fisheye lens-ness of it? What I know for sure is the first time I saw Jeremy’s work I had the same visceral reaction.

One of the things I love about Jeremy’s work is the consistency of it. His work has a signature look that screams Jeremy Haines. That’s probably one of the reason’s he’s been commissioned for concert and event posters, promotional work for other artists, and more.

Asking Jeremy to create art for our wedding was, at first, a joke. We didn’t think he’d actually do it, and if he did we thought it’d be a fun side project. As it turns out we love it so much that it has come to be the lead art for everything. The invitations, the website, the emails, the Facebook group… We’re very lucky to have the original art now hanging in our house (after typing that sentence I looked over at it and guffawed again in its glory).

When picking a date for the wedding, we had lots of options on the table, but settled on 2/2/20 for several reasons. When we learned it was also Groundhogs Day, it just made even more sense. Jeremy totally ran with the ball and gave us 2 Groundhogs on the Beach.

We’re lucky to have Jeremy (and Megan, and you) in our life, and lucky to have a piece of him in our house. Thank You, Jeremy Haines.
